In an apparent reference to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his party, BJP, Law Minister Kapil Sibal today said that they had a habit of criticising whatever happened in the country instead of offering any alternatives.
"There is a person called Nirantar Virodhi (Narendra Modi). Have you heard anything positive from him. I spoke about our government (UPA)'s education policy, but has he ever spoken about education," Sibal said while addressing students at St Stephen's College here.
"He talks about Gujarat all the time and says he will make 'India like Gujarat', but we say we will make 'Gujarat like India'. That's the difference (between Congress and BJP)," Sibal, also the Communication and Information Technology Minister, said.
Accusing Modi, the recently named BJP prime ministerial candidate, and senior party leader Lal Krishna Advani of spreading misinformation, Sibal alleged that though the duo had claimed that Gujarat was the first state to achieve 100 per cent electrification, according to the 2011 Census, the state was at 15th on the all-India list for the same.
"Maximum malnutrition is in Gujarat, they have the most number of dropouts for any state in the country, but nobody talks about it," Sibal added.
