AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal today lashed out at the Narendra Modi government claiming that it was "planning to scrap" the subsidy on LPG cylinders and said the move would be like dropping another "bomb" of inflation on the masses.
Kejriwal was referring to Modi's speech yesterday in which he had spoken of the government's move to transfer LPG subsidy directly to consumers' bank accounts as part of a major endeavour to curb corruption.
"You must have heard the government has announced that the subsidy on gas cylinders would be scrapped and given to only those who have BPL cards. How many of us do have BPL cards? Till now, you all were getting cylinders at Rs 417 but now you will have to spend almost Rs 900," he said at three well- attended rallies today in the Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk and Ballimaran constituencies.
"This decision will amount to dropping of another bomb of inflation on common people," said the former Delhi chief minister even as he charged that "This (Modi) government has not taken even a single chance to reduce the inflation".
Citing his own case in a bid to strike a chord with the public, he said that his family, too, used to get 12 subsidised cylinders before.
The AAP leader, meanwhile, also took potshots at the Centre's Jan Dhan Yojana.
"Only having a bank account doesn't earn you your livelihood. One needs money too," Kejriwal said.
Seeking to corner BJP on the issue of women's security, Kejriwal said that BJP had totally "failed" to curb crimes against women.
"Delhi Police figures say that in the last seven months, rape cases have gone up by 30 per cent while molestation cases are up by 25 per cent," he said.
He also charged that the full strength of BJP was busy practising "derogatory politics" as the party was bereft of issues.
