The Centre will take necessary steps after it receives the state government's report on the Moga incident involving molestation of a girl and pushing her to death from a moving bus belonging to a company owned by the state's ruling Badal family.
Advocating caution while commenting on incidents involving women, Union Minister of State for Home Kiran Rijiju said, "When it comes to incident related to women, we all have to be very very specific. That is why Ministry of Home Affairs has asked for a report and before it gets us, we will not be in a position to react."
"But I am sure the Punjab Government was taking appropriate steps," he said, adding that if the Centre feels appropriate steps have not been taken after receiving the report, "then necessary advisories or suggestions will be given".
"But right now, when the issue is directly under the domain of the State Government, it would not be proper for the MHA to react," Rijiju said.
The Centre had sought a report on the incident from the Punjab Government last Thursday.
Under attack, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today described as "intolerable" and "painful" the incident in Moga and said he will be meeting the family of the victim.
"This (Moga bus incident) is intolerable. The death of a girl in such conditions is very painful to me... I am going to Moga (to meet the family of girl)," Badal told reporters in Patiala in Punjab.
