Moga incident: 3 unions protest, demand FIR against bus owners

Unions of farmers, labourers and students today staged demonstration here demanding registration of case against the bus owners in connection with death of a teenage girl who was allegedly molested and thrown off a bus in Moga on April 29.
The protesters, who were demonstrating in front of the police station here, warned the district police that if case against the bus owners and company was not registered, then they would gherao District Administrative Complex on May 12, Sukhdev Singh Kokri, General Secretary of BKU Ekta said here.
The demonstration was organised by BKU Ekta (Ugrian), Punjab Khet Majdoor Union and Naujwan Bharat Sabha, he added.
Kokri said, they have also demanded cancellation of all route permits and opposed the state government's policy of privatisation of bus services in the state which had resulted in failure of state-owned Punjab Roadways.
They also alleged that the victim's family had been forced into a compromise with the state authorities, he added.
A woman and her teenage daughter were allegedly molested and thrown off a running bus belonging to the ruling Badal family in Punjab, leaving the girl dead and mother seriously wounded, and kicking up a political storm.
The incident sparked widespread protest against Badal-led Punjab government while political parties and social organisations had demanded registration of criminal case against the bus owners.
Under fire over the shocking incident, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal had ordered all buses of Orbit Aviation to be off the road.
The girl's body was consigned to flames at her village Lande Ke on May 3 after father of the victim agreed to conducting of post-mortem and cremation of the body, besides accepting the offer of compensation and a government job.
