The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) today organised a programme in its Najafgarh Zone to bring awareness on prevention of vector-borne diseases.
"In the month of July, 25 VIP challans have been served against defaulters. Some of them are MTNL Office at Raj Nagar, St Gregorias School in Dwarka, L&T CC-27 Metro Project Munirka, Bharti College, Janakpuri, Rajdhani & Shiva Ji College, Raja Garden, Sarvodaya School, Janakpuri, Humayun's Tomb, Nizamuddin and Central School of Sadik Nagar," the SDMC said in a statement.
In areas falling under the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), at least 16 VIP challans have been issued where aedes agypti mosquitoes were found breeding.
Some of the establishments where breeding was reported include -- PWD office and DUSIB office at Inder Lok, NDPL Power Grid, DAV Public School Badli, Nursing Hostel at the Hindu Rao Hospital (run by NDMC), a BSES office, the NDMC said.
At least 26 fresh cases of malaria were reported last week, taking the total number of people affected by this vector-borne disease this year to 210, according to a municipal report released today.
Aedes mosquito breeds in clear water and mostly in artificial water collections and containers like desert coolers, overhead tanks, drums, tyres, junkyard, earthen bird-feeders, fountains, waterfalls, swimming pool and construction sites.
