Five-time national champion Mouma Das will become the highest-capped Indian paddler in the World Table Tennis Championship, slated to be held in Kuala Lumpur from February 8-March 6.
The 31-year-old will join Komwong Nanthana from Thailand, who have the highest number of representation of 15 times in World Table Tennis Championship from an Asian country.
"I never dreamt of achieving the feat as my parents had put me into the local club (in Narkeldanga, Kolkata) as I was very naughty and beyond their control. I could not cheat there as my uncle was involved too.
"Gradually I started winning prizes and I sort of got attracted to it," Mouma told PTI after she helped India beat Pakistan and Maldives with an identical 3-0 margins in the ongoing 12th South Asian Games here today.
When it comes to the World Championship, Mouma has some happy memories having helped India become the team champions in the second division for the first and last time in 2004 as they qualified to the premier level.
Married for more than three years now, Mouma credited her family for their relentless support in achieving the feat.
"First my parents were behind me constantly...My right hand and and now I'm lucky to get the same support from my husband -- my left hand."
Mouma is in splendid form, having won a silver medal for India in the recently concluded Commonwealth TT Championship in Surat.
"The target is to win and qualify for the main group," she signed off.
