The Madhya Pradesh government would set up a museum and hold a series of programmes in Burhanpur town to mark the 350th birth anniversary or "Prakash Parv" of Sikh Guru Gobind Singh during January 25 to January 28.
Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru who was born in the 17th Century, had stayed in Burhanpur's Badi Sangat Gurudwara for six months and nine days before heading towards Nanded (Maharashtra), said state Women and Child Development minister Archana Chitnis.
"Burhanpur is a significant place connected with the life of Guru Gobind Singh ji. A museum would be set up here. Besides, several other programmes would be organised to mark his 350th birth anniversary celebrations," Chitnis told reporters at a press conference here.
She said an amount of Rs 17.39 crore would be spent on the programmes.
"Of this, the Centre has sanctioned Rs 15.39 crore while the remaining expenses would be incurred by the state government. These programmes are being organised in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement to celebrate the 350 th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh," the minister said.
The state government has already allotted two-acre land for the construction of the museum, she said.
A series of cultural programmes, including Kirtan, Shabad, folk dances from Punjab, would be organised from January 25 to January 28.
"Similar programmes would also be organised in February as well," Chitnis added.
Burhanpur, located about 325 kms from the state capital, shares its border with Maharashtra.
