"The companies, charged for contamination of water and violation of several environmental norms have got the closure notice from MPCB and will soon lose water and electricity supply", P Anbalgan, member secretary of the Board told PTI.
Seven manufacturing and production units from Tarapur industrial area, were served show-cause notices for causing water pollution in adjacent water bodies and creek.
Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is the state government's nodal agency for setting up industries and it works as a facilitator.
The hearing of the companies with the MPCB was held today here. Post hearing, the decision to close down the three plants has been taken, Anbalgan said.
"Along with the three companies, MIDC and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited will also get copies of closure notices.
"The MIDC and MSEDCL within next 48 hours will cut the water and power supply to these three plants. This would ensure companies can no longer run their unit", he said.
Asked about hearing of the other four companies, Anbalgan, said, "the hearing of the remaining companies is scheduled tomorrow. Those companies may face some heavy fine as water near Tarapur was badly contaminated. Some of them are going to face hefty fine for sure."
The companies which have received the notices include Tata Steel, Resonance Specialties, Mudra Lifestyle, Kokuyo Camlin, Kriplon Synthetics, Aarti Industries and Karamtara Engineering, the member secretary said.
Out of it, closure notice are issued to Resonance Specialties, Mudra Lifestyle and Kokuyo Camlin, he added.
