Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today said that conferring former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and late freedom fighter Madan Mohan Malviya with Bharat Ratna is a right decision on the right day.
Naik said that observing the birthday of two great personalities as 'Good Governance Day' is also a right decision.
He said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an MP from Lucknow and that it was his honour to be the petroleum minister under his prime ministership.
"Vajpayee has such a personality that even while in opposition, the ruling party used to give him a lot of respect", Naik said in a statement.
He said that to provide quality education Madan Mohan Malviya founded Banaras Hindu University (BHU) by collecting donations, the statement said.
"Besides being an educationist, Malviya was also a journalist and a good lawyer and by honouring the great personality, the government has honoured itself," he said.
Addressing a programme organised by Madan Mohan Malviya Mission, Naik said that to bring improvement in the country's education system, people have to look towards Malviya.
He said that there are 700 universities in the country but no Indian university features in the list of top 200 universities of the world.
At a programme organised on 'Good Governance day', Naik addressed the officers and employees of Raj Bhawan and asked them to work in a manner so that others feel that the Governor house fulfilled its responsibilities with full dedication.
"People must feel that speedy and just decisions are taken in Raj Bhawan," he said.
The Governor said that to check corruption is also a feeling of good governance and that the work culture of Raj Bhawan should be so that other offices appreciate and adopt it, the statement said.
