The two-day symposium of the police brass will begin here tomorrow for exchanging ideas on enhancing the image of the forces and making them adept at handling crime and dealing with the public patiently.
The session is being organised by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD), a department under the Union Home Ministry.
The heads of training of state police forces and the central forces will be present at the event.
BPRD Additional Director General Parvez Hayat said the session will allow exchange of best ideas and modules of training amongst the forces at a time when "public perception" for the police is to "present a good and clean image and work culture" as the government desires to improve the situation of law and order in the country.
He said the police is facing multiple challenges from civil society issues to criminals, as also the onslaught of internet-based crimes.
"As BPRD coordinates the training needs of all states, the conference will act as a sharing platform of ideas in this regard. This year the topic for the symposium has been decided as 'Promoting E-Learning for Police Training'," Hayat said.
Director (Training) at BPRD, Sundari Nanda said the symposium will also promote e-learning modules for police forces, especially in cases where the police forces cannot spare their manpower owing to hectic duties and shortage of boots on ground.
She said the e-learning modules of police forces will leverage on the existing e-learning portals in the country.
Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi will inaugurate the session tomorrow and about 100 senior police officials are expected to take part in the session.
