A 21-year-old son of a Naval employee was arrested today for allegedly creating a fake profile of his senior, daughter of a Naval staffer, on a social networking site and posting her obscene pictures after she spurned his marriage proposal.
The accused Pankaj Kumar is first year student of B.Tech (mechanical engineering) of a private college here. He had requested his senior to marry him last year when he was studying in class XII.
Kumar had been bearing the grudge against the girl for turning him down and created her fake profile on Facebook in December 2012, police said, adding that he posted her photographs and some abusive comments on Facebook.
"Kumar also kept sending nasty SMSes to the girl through Way2Sms and caused her mental agony," police said.
After realising that her fake profile is created, the girl lodged a complaint at Malkapuram police station on June 1, 2013, and the case was handed over to the Cyber Crimes Investigation Cell (CCIC).
Kumar was arrested by the CCIC team led by inspector K Satyanarayana Rao. "A laptop and a mobile phone was seized from him," police said.
Meanwhile, Additional DCP (Crimes) S Varada Raju said the motive behind the crime was to defame the complainant because of some personal enmity against her.
"Kumar is a native of Haryana and son of an Eastern Naval Command employee. The victim's father is also a Naval employee. Both the accused and the victim are the residents of the same locality in the city," the ADCP said.
In another case, police today apprehended a teenage college student from the city for allegedly creating a fake profile of his classmate on Facebook, apparently after she refused to entertain his proposal.
"The juvenile had created a fake profile of the girl and also posted her photos and abusive comments. The girl had lodged a complaint at a local police station on November 29, 2013," Raju said.
Both the accused were booked under relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act, police said.
