Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said he would review progress of Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College & Hospital here in every two weeks as the institute was all set to start MBBS course from this academic session.
Patnaik said this while making an on-the-spot visit of the medical college hospital here. "I am satisfied over the construction work of the medical college hospital. I will review progress of the work in every two weeks," Patnaik told reporters after witnessing the construction work for the new institute.
Accompanied by Health and Family Welfare minister Pratap Jena, the chief minister said that there should be no problem to start the medical college from this academic session after the Supreme Court mandated Oversight Committee according its approval.
The project in Mayurbhanj district is significant for the ruling BJD as the opposition BJP has been making in-roads to the tribal dominated area. The BJP has won most of the zilla parishad seats in the Mayurbhanj district in the recently concluded panchayat elections.
Patnaik said the long standing demand of the people of Mayurbhanj has been fulfilled. He expressed the hope that it would be successful in providing better health care services to the people of Mayurbhanj.
The process of admission of students for 100 MBBS undergraduate seats for the 2017-18 academic session can now be taken up as the Supreme Court mandated committed has given its nod, Health Minister Pratap Jena said.
The oversight committee's green signal came a week after the state government sought its intervention following failure to get Letter of Permission (LoP) from the Medical Council of India (MCI) to start the Medical College and Hospital in 2017-18 academic session.
