Naxals surrender in Chhattisgarh

A Naxal carrying a reward of Rs five lakh on his head surrendered in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district, while 25 rebels, including six women, surrendered in the Bijapur district, today.
27-year-old Suresh Kumar Minj, a member of Maoist's Kutul area committee, turned himself in to the police citing disappointment with the Naxal ideology and their violent activities, Rajnandgaon district SP Prashant Agrawal said.
Minj had joined the Naxals in 2005.
Meanwhile, 25 Naxal cadres surrendered in the presence of state's Forest Minister Mahesh Gagda at Farsegarh, 40 km from Bijapur district headquarters, Additional Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg told PTI.
Bijapur Collector Ayyaz Tamboli and Superintendent of Police KL Dhruv were also present on the occasion.
These cadres belonged toChintanpally, Sagmetta and other villages of Farsegarh police station area, the ASP said.
They included Simmo Dodi alias Sunita and Kudiam Somaru alias Vajja, who were 'local organisation squad' members under National Park Area Committee of Maoists, Garg said.
A prominent Maoist member of the region, Sunita was allegedly involved in the attack on police in Mandem valley in 2009 in which two special police officers were killed.
She was also wanted in cases of murder of villagers at Kerpe and Loded in Bijapur. Vajja too was involved in attacks on security forces in the region, the ASP added.
"In their statement, they said they decided to quit the movement due to growing pressure onNaxalsfrom the security forces,harshforestlifeand empty ideology of the Naxals," the ASP said.
An 'Encouragementamount'of Rs 10,000 was given to each of the surrendered Naxals. They would also get other benefits under the surrenderand rehabilitation policy of the the state government.
