Official sources said Naxal cadres have been visiting many villages in their stronghold Bastar district since last week, putting up posters and asking people not to cast votes in the coming elections.
The Maoists have warned the villagers that fingers will be chopped off if anyone is found with marks of casting vote and they should not venture out on the day of polling.
Sources said that in the past elections, the Naxals only asked people to boycott the polls but this time they have threatened with dire consequences.
Sources said that taking a serious view of the Maoists threat, the Home Ministry has sent additional 400 companies (40,000 personnel) of paramilitary forces to ensure peaceful polling.
There are around 27,000 paramilitary personnel already deployed in Chhattisgarh for anti-Naxal operations.
CPI (Maoist) aims to overthrow the existing democratic structure with violence as their primary weapon and the Front Organisations and Strategic United Fronts as secondary weapons and plan to usher in so called 'New Democratic Revolution'.
