Four men who accidentally went into deep waters while immersing a Durga idol here were saved by NDRF personnel in a late night operation.
The incident took place during midnight yesterday at Khidkiya Ghat area of the city when a group of devotees arrived for the Durga idol immersion ritual.
Four young men, who were in the process of lowering the idol in the river, slipped from the boat and went into deep waters prompting on-duty personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to get into action.
Officials said the men immediately took out ropes and other life-saving equipments to pull out the four men.
"The NDRF men showed quick presence of mind and alacrity in saving the men," a senior official said.
NDRF Commanding Officer Alok Singh said a team of about 18 men was deployed in the area for assistance of the district administration in effective rendering of law and order duties during the festival time.
The government has recently stationed a full battalion of the NDRF in the city, also the Parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to respond to any man-made or natural disaster in the entire Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh area.
The force has 10 other battalions positioned in various states of the country to undertake relief and rescue operations in the event of any disaster, accident or emergency.
