The head of Nepal's interim government today called on all sections of society to make the Constituent Assembly elections successful, even as four major political forces and the dissenting parties failed to reach an agreement on some key issues.
"I call upon all the teachers, parents and adult students to make positive contributions towards conducting the November elections in successful way," Chairman of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi said.
He expressed hope that the dialogue undergoing among various political parties to reach consensus on issues relating to the elections will succeed as successful conduction of the elections was essential for ending the longstanding transitional period and maintaining political stability in the country.
Meanwhile, the dialogue between High Level Political Committee (HLPC), representing four major political forces UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, United Democratic Madhesi Front, and the Federal Sociality Party (FSP), a key dissenting group that opposes the election, today ended inconclusively.
Both HLPC and CPN-M yesterday announced that talks had "broken down" as there were unbridgeable differences on the modality and purpose of the CPN-M-backed idea of roundtable though they have agreed to continue the dialogue.
Our main demands include increasing the number of seats in the Constituent Assembly from 585 to 601, same as the previous Assembly had, holding an all-party conference to resolve all the political issues, FSP president Ashok Rai said, adding that major parties were positive towards these demands.
We are ready to take part in the November 19 polls once our demands are fulfilled, he said.
There were different views among the four major political forces regarding our demands and we have urged them to make a common stance on that, he told PTI.
"We are not asking to differ the election date or change the government leadership as pre-conditions for participating in the elections," he said.
