Researchers have developed a new cocktail calculator that can help drinkers better understand the units of alcohol that they are consuming in different beverages.
The calculator developed by The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is supposed to be used as an educational guide only, and consumers should be aware that bars and restaurants will have slightly different recipes for making the cocktails that the calculator presents.
Drink strength will vary according to the rules that the bartenders of individual establishments adhere too, and the calculator is only meant to be used as a guideline informational tool, 'Guardian Liberty Voice' reported.
The drinkers are advised to not consume more than one standard-size alcoholic beverage per hour.
When drinking, a non-alcoholic soft drink should be consumed between alcoholic drinks. The average human body needs two hours to metabolise a single alcoholic drink.
For men, it is advised that a maximum of four standard drinks are consumed on any one day and no more than 14 per week, the report said.
For women, a maximum of three drinks per day and seven total per week. The recommendation for women is lower because they absorb almost 30 per cent more alcohol into their bloodstream than will a man of the same height and weight.
