President Pranab Mukherjee today said that voluntary and non-governmental organisations should come forward to supplement official efforts to aid those suffering from eye diseases in the country.
The number of eye patients in the country is very large and urgent steps are needed to address their problems, Mukherjee said at the inauguration of Shankaracharya Netralaya here in Narsinghpur district.
"As per the figures, 60 per cent of those with eye ailments suffer from cataract," he added.
