"The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a student of 8th class drowned while four others were rescued from a water pit made near a Metro construction site in Karkardooma, East Delhi on September 6," the NHRC said.
The locals alleged that the Metro Administration had left open pits which resulted in such incidents.
The boy, identified as Kartik, aged 15 years, was the resident of Arya Nagar Colony in Karkardooma.
"The contents of the report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim child," observed the Commission.
The Commission has sought a report in this matter from Delhi Chief Secretary within two weeks.
