The 27-year-old actor, who has a recurring role on The CW's 'The Tomorrow People', won the role by auditioning and sending in a side-by-side comparison of himself and the real Jagger for 'Get on Up', said the Hollywood Reporter.
The actor also submitted a recording in which he sang The Rolling Stones' classic 'Time Is on My Side' for HBO's TV movie 'Cinema Verite'.
Jagger will serve as one of the producers for the biopic.
Tate Taylor is set to direct and with Chadwick Boseman playing the role of the Godfather of Soul.
The movie, written by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, will give a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown.
It follows the rise of the artiste from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into a world famous and highly influential musician.
