Outgoing Governor of Nagaland, Nikhil Kumar today left for Kerala to complete the remainder of his gubernatorial assignment in that state.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, his council of ministers and opposition MLAs bid him farewell.
Governor designate Ashwani Kumar, a former CBI director and DGP Himachal Pradesh, will take oath on March 21 at the Raj Bhavan here.
In his farewell speech last night, Nikhil Kumar called on the Naga people to collectively work towards bringing stable peace to the state.
"I am aware of the efforts being made by the state government, Assembly, NGOs and Churches for permanent peace in the state," he said.
He said that with Nagaland claiming to be a Christian state and every Naga considering themselves to be Christians, they should follow Christian values and be peace makers.
Describing Nagaland as the most beautiful place, he said, "Nagaland and its people means a lot to me."
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that Kumar had immensely contributed towards peace and progress in the state and also helped Nagaland play a more significant role in nation-building.
The outgoing governor and his lady were felicitated with a giant size Konyak Naga gong, a spear, shawl and other items from the state government as well as all the districts.
Kumar was transferred and appointed as Governor of Kerala on March 9.
