Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today inaugurated the 'Sabhyata Dwar', a 32-metre high gateway, which seeks to encapsulate the state's "glorious" past.
Built on the banks of the Ganges at a cost of Rs 5 crore, the gateway is flanked by gardens and inscribed with preachings of Gautama Buddha, Jain Tirthankara Mahavira, Emperor Ashoka and Greek historian Megasthenes, all of whom had set foot on 'Pataliputra' - the ancient name of Bihar's capital city.
Red and white sandstone brought from Rajasthan have been used in the construction of the structure that has an 'Ashoka Stambh' on the top, which would be illuminated with LED lights after sunset.
Addressing a function to mark the occasion, Kumar said, "The Sabhyata Dwar points towards the glorious history of Bihar. It is likely to become a major centre of attraction for people visiting the city."
