Though there was no fresh snowfall in Mussoorie and adjoining hills of Dhanolti, the temperature in Dehradun plunged sharply from yesterday's minimum of 9.3 deg C to 5.8 deg C, the MeT office said.
Pithoragarh was the coldest at -3 deg C followed by Mukteshwar at -2.6 deg and Tehri at -2.0 deg C.
The weatherman attributed the fall in temperature at most places to the absence of clouds which serve like a "blanket" and arrest the drop in mercury.
However, a report from Uttarkashi said Harsil located at a height of 2,620 metres on way to Gangotri from where the Ganga originates in the Himalayas has been receiving snowfall over the past few days.
