The CID today arrested the owner of a north Kolkata nursing home for his alleged involvement in an international child racket busted in Baduria of North 24 Parganas district.
The owner of Sri Krishna Nursing Home in College Street, Partha Chatterjee, was arrested this morning, a senior CID official said.
"He was initially detained for questioning but he failed to satisfy us with his answers following which he was arrested," the official said.
Dr Santosh Kumar Samanta (60), attached with the same nursing home, was arrested yesterday for his alleged involvement in the racket.
Paromita Chatterjee, of the same nursing home, and Prabha Parmanik and Putul Banerjee of South View Nursing Home in Behala were arrested yesterday evening.
Eight persons were arrested on Monday following a raid by CID at a private nursing home in Baduria after receiving inputs from a source.
They were identified as Najma Bibi, Utpala Byapari, a quack Amirul Biswas, owner of a local nursing home Asadur Jaman, an NGO activist Satyajit Sinha, a clinic-owner Bakbul Baidya and lawyer Prabhat Sarkar along with his associate Jhantu Biswas.
As part of the racket, newborns were smuggled to other states and also overseas inside cardboard boxes meant for biscuit packaging.
