Odisha gripped by heat wave conditions

The heat wave condition continued to grip the western region of Odisha with mercury soaring to 45.5 degrees celsius at Titlagarh even as the people in coastal districts experienced uneasiness due to high rate of humidity, Met office said.
At least nine places recorded a high of above 40 degrees Celsius.
Titlagarh was followed by Bolangir which recorded 45 degree C and Bhawanipatna sizzled at 44.5 degrees C. Malkangiri also recorded 44.4 degrees C, it said.
Jharsuguda, another western Odisha town, recorded 43.4 degrees C followed by Hirakud at 42.4 degrees C and Sonepur 41.9 degrees C, the Met sources said.
Other places which experienced temperature above 40 degree C were: Hirakud (42.4), Sonepur (41.9), Sambalpur (41.2) and Sundergarh (40).
Bhubaneswar, which experienced 10.3 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours, recorded a high of 36 degrees Celsius with humidity level at 100 per cent, the Met sources said.
The maximum temperature in neighbouring Cuttack was 36.6 degrees Celsius.
Death toll due to sunstroke remained at 20, according to special relief commissioner's office.
Meanwhile, the IMD predicted thundersquall and rainfall at some places in the next 24 hours and heat wave condition till May 26th.
