Omar reviews restoration measures taken in snow-hit areas

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reviewed the restoration measures in areas affected by snowfall in the Kashmir valley, and asked officials to be prepared to respond to the requirements of people on all counts.
Omar, during a high level meeting of divisional officers in Srinagar, was assured of the preparedness of the administration in tackling any untoward events due to snowfall, an official spokesman said.
The Chief Minister was briefed about restoration of important public services, including clearing of snow-hit roads and national highways, supply of power, drinking water and essential commodities, functioning of health institutions, the spokesman said.
Emphasising on the need to be prompt in responsiveness, Omar asked the officials to be prepared to heed to the people in the hour of need.
Asking officials to be vigilant of hoarders who use "unfavourable situation to create false scarcity and increase prices", he directed officials to ensure availability of all essential commodities across the Valley and do a regular check of markets.
Briefing the Chief Minister, officials told him that adequate essential commodities sufficient for one month were stocked in the Valley besides kerosene oil and LPG.
"As many as 2.15 lakh quintals of rice, 25,922 quintals of sugar, 93,700 quintals of wheat, 6,124 kilo litres of kerosene oil, 3.50 lakh LPG cylinders, 11,256 kilo litres of diesel and 2,899 kilo litres of petrol are presently stocked in the Valley," the spokesman said.
