AAP's Punjab unit chief Bhagwant Mann today termed the Congress government in the state and the BJP-led NDA dispensation at the Centre "two sides of the same coin" as both have allegedly failed to fulfill their poll promises to the farmers.
He also said in the run up to the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll the Aam Aadmi party (AAP) would reach out to every household in theconstituency"to expose the double speak of both the BJP and Congress who have deceived the poor farmers only to get their votes and later left them high and dry".
The bypoll, necessitated following the death of actor and BJP MP Vinod Khanna, will be held on October 11. The AAP has announced retired Major General Suresh Khajuria as its candidate for the bypoll.
"The Amarinder Singh-led Congress government in Punjab and the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre are two sides of the same coin as both have failed to live up to the promises made to the farmers," Mann alleged.
The AAP MP said the Modi government has completed three years, "but failedto implement recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission Report which the BJP had promised ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls".
"The Central government has also ignored the large number of suicides beingcommitted bythe farmers all across India as they fail to getreasonable rates for their agriculture produce," Mann claimed in a statement here.
"Similarly, before coming to power, Amarinder Singh's party went to every household in Punjab and gave written assurances to farmers and farm labourers that their outstanding agriculture loans would be waived, including those from public sector banks, cooperative banks or commissioned agents," he said.
Mann alleged that once in power, the Congress did not fulfill the promises made to the farmers.
