Punit Yadav was arrested by Crime Branch sleuths from Dwarka Sector 13 on November 28 after laying a trap on getting specific inputs, and an automatic pistol and live rounds were recovered from him, Joint Commissioner of Police, Ravindra Yadav said.
"During interrogation, he admitted that he along with his associate Sombir had gunned down property dealer Bijender in Uttam Nagar on November 8, over dispute of ownership of a vacant plot of land," said the officer.
According to police, they had spotted an unclaimed piece of land in C-Block of Bhagwati Garden. When they started construction on it, Bijender also laid his claim and warned them to keep off citing his closeness with the local MLA.
Bijender was in turn threatened by the gang on several occasions but he forcibly constructed a wall on the plot. Following which, the accused shot him dead near his house on November 8, the officer said.
He allegedly joined the gang to earn easy and quick money and to assert influence in the area, police said.
