Over 10,000 contractual primary teachers in Bihar failed to clear an efficiency test in which elementary level questions were asked.
Of the 44,872 teachers who sat for the efficiency test conducted by the State Centre for Education Research and Training on October 19, 10,634 failed, education department sources said today.
Director SCERT Hassan Bari told PTI that the questions were from the syllabus of class I to VIII which they taught.
In addition, there were questions on subjects like mathematics, social science, English and general knowledge while 25 marks were reserved for aptitude.
Principal Secretary, Human Resources Development Amarjeet Sinha said that two chance were given to every teacher to clear the examination. It would cost the jobs of those failing to clear it in two attempts.
"We have to see for how many teachers it was the second attempt," he said.
After coming to power, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had recruited 2.25 lakh school teachers.
The state government had recently increased their honorarium by Rs 3000 for different categories, after agitation.
