Over 1500 students complained of ragging between 2013-15:HRDM

There were 1,572 complaints of ragging in colleges in years 2013, 2014 and 2015, as per data available with the University Grants Commission (UGC), the HRD Ministry said today.
In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, HRD minister Smriti Irani said there were 640 complaints in 2013, 543 in 2014 and 389 in the year 2015.
Replying to another question, Irani in a written reply said there are 2,463 teaching positions vacant in IITs and 5,987 in Central Universities.
She however added that research scholars, contract,adjunct and visiting faculty contributing to teaching-learning process more than adequately compensate for these vacant positions.
