Health Minister J P Nadda said the registration of 100 medical professionals convicted under the Act has been suspended or cancelled by concerned state medical councils.
Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour in the Upper House, he said "doctors are acted upon and action is taken against family members also" and added that corrective action was being taken to improve the sex ratio.
He also said that the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), which compiles data of criminal cases including female foeticide, has categorised it as a separate category since 2014.
"As per NCRB, a total of 50 cases have been reported under female foeticide across the country in 2014," he said.
