Over 245 lower primary school teachers in Meghalaya, whose appointments in 2010 were found 'tainted', are set to loose their jobs as the Law department has directed the Education department to terminate their services, officials said today.
"About 246 teachers will be issued notices accordingly as the Law department has directed the Education department to terminate their services," a senior Education official told PTI on condition of anonymity.
The High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) constituted by the state government last year to scrutinize and probe into the alleged education job scam unearthed by the report of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also recommended termination of services of such teachers, the official said.
A CBI report found that 255 candidates out of 350 managed a back door entry after politicians recommended their names in the appointment of assistant teachers in state's lower primary schools in 2010 during which Urban Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh was Education Minister.
The Education department is in the process of issuing the termination notices to the teachers and is expected to complete the task by February last week, the official said.
The Education department had earlier served showcause notices to 255 teachers whose appointments were found 'tainted' due to certain political recommendation and not due to their merit, to reply as to why their services should not be terminated, he said.
The Director School Education and Literacy A C Marak also warned that failure to reply to the show cause will force the department to take action as per law against the teachers.
The state government was forced to terminate teachers whose appointment in lower primary schools were found 'tainted', following a court order on petitions filed by several aggrieved candidates.
