Over 5000 people participate in 3rd Chandigarh marathon

Vinod Kumar and Amandeep Kaur won the '3rd Chandigarh Marathon' in the men's and women's category respectively, here today.
The marathon was met with great response as nearly 5000 runners participated in the competition, organised by the Chandigarh administration.
Vinod Kumar took home a cash prize of Rs one lakh.
Former India sprinter Milkha Singh, was also present at the flag off ceremony.
The runners had a pleasant experience after last night drizzle in the city.
Sunita from Hyderabad, who has participated in 15 marathons, was given a special consolation prize.

With such a huge number of participants turning out for for full and half marathon, the 'Chandigarh Marathon' has become one of the biggest tourism sports event of the city.

The event that saw maximum turnout was the 5 km 'run for fun' race which took the route between Sukhna lake and Rock garden.
Prizes upto Rs four lakh were distributed by K K Sharma, Adviser to the Administrator, who was also the chief guest of the event.
