Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, who was earlier sent to jail for misleading the court, today told the Delhi High Court that he has deposited Rs 38 lakh towards repayment of a loan of Rs five crore taken from a businessman.
A bench of Justice G S Sistani asked HDFC and ICICI banks to "forthwith" release the money to Delhi-based businessman M G Agarwal, owner of Murli Projects.
Agarwal had filed a recovery suit against the 43-year-old actor and his wife Radha after the couple failed to repay the loan of Rs five crore which was taken in 2010 for Yadav's Hindi debut directional film "Ata Pata Laapata".
The court, in March, had allowed Yadav to travel to Dubai for shooting of a film on a condition that the money he will earn will be used to repay the loan.
The court had also made clear that the permission to go abroad, between March 30 and April 14, was not a "concession" as his past conduct was "not good".
During the proceedings, senior counsel Dayan Krishnan, appearing for the businessman, alleged that Yadav did not provide him with a copy of undertaking filed in the court.
Yadav's counsel, however, opposed the plea.
Krishnan termed it serious and said, strict action be taken against Yadav as has been done by the apex court in the Sahara case.
Earlier, Yadav was directed to file an undertaking that he will return on or by April 14 and will give terms of travel, nature of the contract and the financial terms.
The high court had on December 10, 2013 suspended the sentence of 10 days jail term awarded to him by a single judge for misleading the court in the recovery suit.
Yadav had spent three days in jail from December 3 to 6, 2013.
