"Our prominent religious days teach us love, respect and friendship for each other. Moreover we share happy moments to forget our sorrows," Malik said in the micro-blogging site Twitter.
"I have sent my greetings/Happy Diwali to Mr Shinde, Home Minister of India. I wish more peace and friendship to grow in coming years," Malik wrote.
The Pakistan Home Minister also extended the wishes to people of India. "Happy Diwali to all my Hindu brothers and sisters. I wish u all the best. I hope all my friends in India are enjoying this joyful day."
The Home Minister had met his Pakistani counterpart last fortnight in Rome on the sidelines of the Interpol General Assembly and discussed various issues concerning both the neighbours.
Shinde had pressed for early handing over of the voice samples of the handlers of 10 terrorists who carried out the Mumbai terror attack that claimed 166 lives and speedy trial of LeT commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and six others during that meeting.
