Pakistani prisoners in high security Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu have gone on 'fast' protesting the death of Sanaullah Ranjay at a hospital in Chandigarh today.
"Pakistani prisoners here (in the jail) have not taken food in afternoon...We are pursuing them," an officer of the state Prisons department told PTI.
There are 22 Pakistani prisoners in Kot Bhalwal jail.
"They are upset over the death of Sanaullah and said they will not take food," he added.
Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay, who went into a coma after being badly beaten up by a fellow inmate in the Jammu jail on May 3, died this morning at the PGIMER hospital in Chandigarh.
A resident of Daluwali in Sailkot district of Pakistan, Sanaullah was arrested in 1994 for his involvement in two blasts at passenger vehicles at Satwari and Manda Morh in Jammu city, in which 14 persons were killed and several others were injured.
He was sent to Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu in 1999 and in 2009, he was sentenced to imprisonment for life.
Sanaullah was also involved in digging of a tunnel in the jail trying to escape along with other Pakistani prisoners.
