Pak to shut 41 seminaries in capital for military parade

Pakistan government has decided to shut down 41 religious seminaries here for a week as part of the security arrangements during the Pakistan Day military parade on March 23, an official said today.
The government had announced on February 2 to hold a joint military parade to mark Pakistan Day after a break of seven years.
A security official said that the administration decided to close seminaries located near the venue from March 18 to 24, after law enforcement agencies asked the capital administration to vacate seminaries and shrines within 2-kilometre radius of parade venue.
Police has already got details of 41 seminaries which fall in the designated vicinity, including 18 under the Industrial Area Police Station, six under the Shahzad Town Police Station, 14 under Aabpara Police Station and three under the Secretariat police limits.

There are 401 seminaries within the capital city's territorial limits, with about 31,796 students.
Most of them set up during the times military ruler Ziau Haq in 1980s.
