Palghar District Rural Superintendent of Police Manjunath Singe, in a statement issued today, said he has requested to the SIG Konkan Range to transfer the probe out of the district as it was necessary to give police a fair chance for investigation.
On January 23, the Palghar district police had booked four persons, including a senior police official, for allegedly abetting the suicide.
"I have been noticing some messages related to death of Amit Jha. It's important to stay away from rumours and false perceptions. It's even more important to give police a fair chance for investigation," Singe said.
"For the fair investigation of the cases, I have requested Special Inspector General, Konkan to transfer the investigation out of Palghar district and give it to some officer outside district," the statement said.
Amit Jha, who consumed poison on January 20, died at a Mumbai hospital on January 22.
Jha is the brother of Vikas Jha, who had tried to set himself ablaze in November last year inside the office of a Deputy Superintendent of Police, police had said.
