Parrikar agrees to amend order after opposition ruckus

Bowing to opposition pressure, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today agreed to amend the order which had banned government officers from visiting the residences of the legislators and Members of Parliament.
Parrikar, while responding to the calling attention motion moved by leader of opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar, told the legislative assembly that "calling a meeting at private residences is not proper but the officials can visit the office of the MLAs and MPs attached to their residences," he said.
The opposition benches had created a ruckus on the floor of the House yesterday after Speaker Pramod Sawant disallowed the adjournment motion moved by Congress to discuss the circular.

The circular had banned government officers from visiting the residences or offices of MLAs or MPs.
"In view of the difficulties expressed by MLAs, the circular will be modified. There is no need of any fear or anxiety in the minds of anyone," Parrikar said.
Justifying the circular, the chief minister said the work load on the government officers has increased during the last few years.
"Until a few years ago, many departments did not exist but today, there are several new departments. The work of the officers should not be disrupted by repeatedly calling them," he said.
