IPL title sponsor PepsiCo and official broadcaster Multi Screen Media (MSM) are adopting a wait and watch strategy after the Supreme Court proposed to keep Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals out of the seventh season of the T20 league.
"The matter is sub-judice. We would not like to offer any comment," a PepsiCo India spokesperson told PTI when asked about the company's strategy in the wake of the latest developments surrounding the IPL.
The Food and beverages major had bagged the title sponsorship rights of IPL for the next five years (2013-17) for Rs 396.8 crore.
Similarly, MSM, is also keeping cards close to its chest.
"It's too early for us to say something on this. What BCCI would do, we cannot comment on that. We have to see the outcome of the Supreme Court order," Multi Screen Media President (Network sales, licensing) Rohit Gupta said.
Multi Screen Media, formerly Sony Entertainment Television, and World Sports Group had been signed as the official broadcast partners for IPL in a fresh nine-year deal running through to 2017 for a whopping Rs 8,200 crore in 2009.
The Supreme Court today proposed to replace BCCI President N Srinivasan with former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, and barring Chennai Super Kings (CSK) along with Rajasthan Royals (RR) from IPL 7 till it decides the case of betting and spot fixing scandal.
In case of CSK and RR are disallowed, the eight-team IPL would be left with six teams which would lead to lesser number of matches in the annual tournament that could affect viewership.
The seventh edition of the T20 league was proposed to be played between April 16 to June 1.
The court, which will pass its order tomorrow, has also sought keeping away any person associated with Srinivasan- promoted India Cements, the owner of CSK, from being involved in the functioning of the BCCI.
