A pedestrian was knocked down by a truck near Pokamura tin-ali on NH-37 in Assam's Jorhat district, the police said today.
The speeding truck coming from Dibrugarh side towards Dergoan hit the pedestrian identified as Babul Dutta (31) yesterday, the sources said.
The accident victim, resident of Porbotia goan near here, was trying to cross the road when the truck hit him from the back, they said.
The driver and handyman along with the truck were held by police.
Accident rate has been increasing between Dergoan to Pulibor on the NH-37 due to alleged reckless driving by commercial vehicle drivers, social activist Satyabrat Baruah, fighting for observation of traffic-rules in the state, said.
