The Gujarat High Court today issued a notice to the state government on a PIL demanding higher wages for Home Guards jawans.
A division bench of Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice V M Pancholi issued notices to the secretary of state home department and commandant general of Home Guards, seeking replies by April 18.
Petitioner Pravin Sarvaiya, a Home Guards jawan, contended through his lawyer Vijay Nangesh that a government resolution of September 2012 has fixed the daily wage of a jawan at just Rs 200 per day.
This was even less than the minimum wage of Rs 300-315 per day fixed by the government, he said, praying that the court should set aside the resolution.
There are over 13,000 Home Guards jawans in the state, the petition said, demanding a pay for them on par with police constables.
