The compensation sought for from S George was for 'loss of image, reputation and defamation..Which amounted to scandalous overtures', it said.
Popular Front of India contended it was a social welfare organization and conducts a 'unity march' every year to mark its inaugural day. It received permission from Ramanathapuram district police to conduct its event on February 16, 2014.
The Madras High Court bench, however, quashed the FIR in November 2014 and also ordered an inquiry, headed by a senior police officer. Even after a one year lapse, the inquiry was not initiated, the petitioner said.
PFI said its request to hold the procession in 2015 was rejected by Deputy Superintendent Police Dindigul and city police commissioner, following which they moved Madras High Court and filed two writ petitions.
It alleged that during proceedings, the commissioner had given false information to the court on a pending FIR against PFI members in Ramanathapuram district and misled the court by saying PFI cadres planned to carry weapons in the march.
Because of the 'wrong information' the Court had passed a common order and dismissed both petitions, PFI said.
When the matter came up for hearing before Justice T S Sivagnanam, Additional Government Pleader said CoP and DSP, Dindigul had filed review petitions.
The court then ordered notice to the commissioner and the DSP and posted the matter for hearing to April 17.
