The governing body of Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) today expressed concern over the present situation at the institute in wake of the
ongoing strike by its staff due to non-payment of salaries.
A meeting of the governing body of the institute was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Doctors and staff at PIMS, run by a society, are on strike for nearly a month now due to non payment of salaries.
The governing body expressed concern over the non-payment of salaries to faculty members and the inconvenience caused to patients and the disruption of classes for the medical students due to the strike, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's office said.
It was of the "unanimous view" that urgent remedial measures are required to be taken in the matter, the spokesperson said.
The governing body also discussed the letter from the PIMS Medical and Education Charitable Society on January 3 explaining the organisational changes the Society made to strengthen its functioning and management.
The letter further stated that the process of salary disbursement to all employees would be completed on January 7, and the College and hospital would start functioning normally again immediately thereafter, the spokesperson said.
The governing body of PIMS took note of the assurance made by the society to resolve all outstanding issues and unanimously decided to re-convene the meeting on January 10.
