Language and Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka said that the recent move of Delhi University, to allow only three affiliated colleges to teach Punjabi, has led to growing resentment among people from the state and across the globe who speak the language.
Maluka said that while on one hand different countries are recognizing Punjabi by granting it an official language status, on the other hand it is being degraded in its own country.
As per the new diktat, the varsity has decided to allow only three affiliated colleges to teach Punjabi language as a main subject to students under its recently introduced four-year undergraduate programme.
The minister claimed that agitated people are ready to take to the streets to ensure the dignity and grandeur of the language is restored.
