Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jitendra Rana said "The operation was conducted after we received intelligence inputs that a gang of criminals has assembled in Rajapul area in the state capital during the wee hours and were planning to commit some crime."
Rana said a team was constituted under the leadership of City SP (Central) Chandan Kumar Kushwaha and it surrounded the area nabbing six persons with firearms. A few others managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
"The arrested persons have confessed that they were planning to rob businessmen who frequent the area to collect their weekly money. Raids are being conducted to arrest other members of the gang," Rana said.
The SSP said the kingpin of the gang was one Manish Kumar, an accused in the Rs one crore loot case in Patna and was currently lodged in Beur Central Jail and used to guide his gang while being produced at the court.
