Police and Maoists today exchanged gunfire for over an hour in a hilly area of Baskandri village in Dumka district.
Acting on a tip-off that the rebels gathered in the village, police raided the area and were fired upon by the Maoists, Superintendent of Police Nirmal Kumar Mishra said.
Police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police R G Oraon, retaliated and forced the guerrillas to retreat.
The hour-long gun battle started around 10 am.
While there was no casualty on the police side, it was not known whether any bullet hit the Maoists, Mishra said.
