Port employees to go on a two-day strike in Feb

Workers and employees across all the Government owned Port to go on strike on February 20 and 21, 2013. The decision was taken by the Union leaders of the major ports workers after a high level meeting held at Chennai.

Over and above the Demands formulated by Central Trade Unions for the Nationwide Strike, several Demands pertaining to port & dock workers such as avoid corportisation of Major Ports, implementation of various settlements, regularisation of contract workers, decasulisation of pool workers at New Mangalore, Vishakapatnam, Paradeep, Kandla, Cochin, stoping of outsourcing and contracting out of perenial and regular Port related activities / works and exclusion of Major Ports from TAMP etc. are also included in the Strike Notice.

The Federations have advised their all affiliates at All Major Ports to take expeditious and appropriate steps to mobilize the workers for the effective and successful strike.

The Meeting was chaired by G Kalan, President, Tamilnadu State INTUC and General Secretary of the Indian National Port & Dock Workers Federation (INTUC). The Federations have decided to serve a Notice of Strike under statutory provisions to the respective Port Authorities on February 4, 2013 by its Affiliates at all the Major Ports.
