Chief Secretary Barkos Warjri told reporters here the power generation capacity of the 126 MW Myntdu-Leshka Hydel Power Project has jumped up to 70 mega watts (MW) where it produced only 6 MW in the lean season relieving the state from severe power crisis.
Since the project is a run-of-the river, pre-monsoon rains have added enough water to run the project, he said.
The central North East Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) is also expected to de-regulate power supply to Meghalaya by Thursday, after the state government has sanctioned Rs 30 crore to pay part of the Rs 379 crore pending dues.
The senior official also informed that the state is expecting 45 MW of power from NEEPCO from May 8.
