The newly-elected executive body of the Press Association, in its first meeting, unanimously passed a resolution, seeking pension for the working journalists who are accredited by the PIB, the media wing of the government of India.
In a statement, the Press Association said many state governments have pension schemes for the working journalists while many others, who had no such schemes, have now started this welfare proposal for the journalists.
The demand is genuine and would provide some social security to a large number of accredited journalists who do not come under any such scheme, it said.
The Press Association also demanded that the existing Central Government Health Scheme for the accredited journalists be made applicable in all government and private hospitals as done in case of the employees and pensioners of the government of India.
